Have you ever watched a sunrise over the ocean? Particularly as rain is easing? I have a memory of waking at 5am while at the coast with my daughter, a while ago now. She was already awake rugged up in a blanket on the balcony waiting for the sunrise to appear over the ocean. It was Winter and it had been a night of storms and rain and we’d joked the night before she wouldn’t get up in time. But there she was. Waiting for the sunrise. The thing is, the wind picked up again and it was hazy and grey over the ocean, the horizon a blur…we missed the sunrise! It happened behind the clouds, unseen to us.

It wasn’t until the clouds parted that the suns rays of light shone through. The sun was already soaring high above us. In that moment the grey ocean became aqua and pink in places as the light refracted. It was a pretty moment that reminded me that we often look for the obvious, and in doing so fail to see the beauty unfolding behind the scenes. Amidst the dark gloomy days there’s always light coming. We just have to wait for the clouds to part. I’ve taken pics in several different lights so you can see the tone of the work. These colours are very hard to photograph. The palette shifts from cool and moody to warm and light depending on the position it’s placed.

NB: While every effort is made to capture the true colours and details of my artwork, every screen is different and art viewed online does not do my work justice. Slight differences may be evident between a screen image and the true tone of my work which is more vivid and beautiful in reality. Scale may also be slightly off due to the insitu art app used, so please ensure you measure your space. Thank you!
